Tales of A Paleo Mom

A Day at the Beach…

on March 24, 2013

Today we headed over the hill to Santa Cruz with our family’s best buddies.  We packed lunches and planned on eating dinner out, so I felt pretty good about being able to make healthy choices for eating today.  The weather was a bit cool, but the kids had a blast and even went boogie boarding (brrrrrrr).  After a couple hours at the beach, we headed to Downtown Santa Cruz to find a place for dinner.  We ended up at a little pasta and pizza restaurant, Kianti’s Pizza and Pasta Bar, which included a little show which we had no idea about.  The lights went out and we assumed they had blown a breaker but quickly realized the restaurant staff were up to something when they started putting on black and yellow feather boas.  They proceeded to dance (actual practiced routines!) to several songs including “Grease Lightning”, and my hubby was the lucky recipient of a waiter’s pelvic thrusts which the waiter apologized for in advance.  It was a great place to take the family and somewhere we would definitely go back to.  While it was primarily pasta and pizza, there were a few salads on the menu that with a bit of tweaking would  be fine for dining out and I opted for the taco salad minus the dressing, tortilla strips, and cheese.

Today’s Chow…

  • Meal 1:  two eggs cooked in coconut oil, sauerkraut, cantaloup and a couple strawberries, coffee with coconut milk and coconut sugar
  • Snack before hitting the road:  greenish banana with sunflower seed butter
  • Meal 2:  leftover roast from dinner wrapped in Romaine lettuce leaves, Greek olives, pepperoncinis, pistachios (too many!)
  • Meal 3:  Calypso Cooler (this isn’t Paleo but it was yummy!) and a taco salad which included shredded lettuce, ground beef, tomatoes, purple onion, pepperoncinis,  and avocado….cleaned my plate.  I was a hungry girl!

I am currently enjoying a cup of decaf with coconut milk and coconut sugar and fighting the urge to grab a piece or two of dark chocolate…pretty sure I will be heading to the kitchen once this posts!
